Noremac Stud made first appearance at Australian Sheep and Wool Show

DEAN and Mandy Cameron named their Western District White Suffolk stud Noremac - it’s their surname backwards.

But there’s only one direction for this relatively new sheep stud and that’s forwards.

The Englefield breeders began the stud in 2011, and run 125 ewes plus 70 ewe lambs, which Dean says allows them to be selective and ensure their best possible progeny are used in the stud.

“I have a passion for sheep breeding and improving my genetic database so starting a stud seemed the perfect answer,” says Dean, a fourth-generation farmer.

The Camerons are regular attendees at local country shows including Horsham, Coleraine, Casterton, Edenhope and Hamilton Sheepvention, and have built up their confidence and knowledge on how to breed a true-to-type White Suffolk.

Dean says White Suffolk are known for being easy to lamb and early maturing with great temperaments.

He says they have quality skins with great meat eating quality as well as market flexibility.

This year the Noremac Stud will makes its first appearance at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show at Bendigo.
“It’s a great opportunity to network and assess how our breeding program is developing by comparing to others,” Dean says.

“We have a good line up of sheep to show and White Suffolk is the feature breed this year at Bendigo.”

Along with featuring the White Suffolk, the Australian Sheep and Wool Show showcases Australia’s top wool growers and prime lamb producers, as well as fashion and fine food.

More than 5000 farmers and 28 breeds of sheep, goats and alpacas took part of this year’s
event.
