Tenders shortlisted for Bendigo Airport Redevelopment

The redevelopment of the Bendigo Airport is progressing with the City of Greater Bendigo short listing five companies who will be invited to tender for the construction of the new 1,600 metre runway capable of carrying planes with up to 70 passengers.

City of Greater Bendigo Director City Futures Stan Liacos said in August the Minister for Planning had approved the planning scheme amendment and permit needed for the $15 million expansion to proceed.

“Since receiving the Ministers approval the City has moved quickly to progress this important project for our region.

“The tender for the project will be released in October and it is expected Council will make a decision on the Head Contractor in December. This means the works, which will take 12 months to complete can commence in early 2016,” said Mr Liacos.

He said local subcontractors interested in being part of the project are encouraged to register their interest at www.gateway.icn.org.au

“We want to see local trades benefit from this project and by registering their interest they will be included on a list that will be supplied to the tenderers for consideration,” said Mr Liacos.

Bendigo Airport Advisory Committee Chair, James Williams said the airport is a high priority project that is all about growing Greater Bendigo’s economic base by providing better and faster access to the rest of Victoria and beyond.
“Construction of the new runway and the creation of a new business park at the airport will inject $34.9M into the local economy and create 84 full-time equivalent jobs. It will also ensure that emergency services can retain their critical operations at the airport.

“It is going to be a tremendous asset for our region well into the future,” Cr Williams said.

The $15 million Bendigo Airport expansion project is being funded with $5 million contributions from the Federal and State Governments and the City of Greater Bendigo.

The project includes construction of the 1,600 metre runway, state-of-the- art lighting, fencing, guidance signs, illuminated wind direction indicators, electrical control cubicle and shelter and line marking.
