Pedal your way to the Hargreaves Mall on October 14 for Ride 2 Work Day

Whether you ride a mountain bike, a retro or road bike, it’s time to hop on your bike and head to the Hargreaves Mall on Wednesday October 14 for Ride 2 Work Day.

Enjoy a free hot breakfast cooked by the Bendigo Sandhurst Rotary Club, prizes and entertainment by the Bendigo South East College stage band from 7.30am to 9am.

Ride 2 Work Day ambassador and Bike Bendigo Treasurer Robert Kretschmer said the event is an opportunity for people to try riding to work in a supportive environment and enjoy the benefits of riding for their daily commute.

“Riding to work can be a normal, everyday activity, whether once a week or every day. More and more people are riding in work wear or casual clothes and at a comfortable speed. Cycling is a great way to get some daily exercise while also getting from A to B,” Mr Kretschmer said.

“To make it easy for people to take part in Ride 2 Work Day there is a poster on the City of Greater Bendigo website that shows roughly how long a cycling commute would take from various parts of Bendigo into the city centre. It also highlights the great off-road bike paths, on-road bike lanes and road underpasses that help people on bikes to skip quickly under roads and avoid traffic.
“If you haven’t ridden your bike in a while or know someone who is interested but a bit unsure on riding to work for the first time, this year we’re encouraging people to buddy up with someone to make the ride to the Mall. There’ll be an extra prize draw just for riders and their buddy.

“Now is also a good time to give your bike a check-up and make sure it’s in good working order. Make sure your tyres are pumped up and you have a bell that works. We are also lucky to have a number of bike shops in Bendigo who can provide an affordable bike check-up.”

The City would like to thank Champions SUPA IGA, Keans Free Range Eggs, Carman’s Muesli Bars, Woolworths Marketplace and Bakers Delight Marketplace for donating food for the event.

La Trobe University Bendigo students are also encouraged to ride their bikes and enjoy a free breakfast at the Life Skills Cafe from 8am to 11am.
