THE poisoned apples are being polished as the Bendigo Theatre Company prepares to present Snow White.

Bronte Bailey, 16, takes on the role of Snow White while Melanie Thoren, 20, plays the evil queen.

A cast of almost 20 join Bronte and Melanie on stage in what is sure to be a great holiday activity for families.

“A lot of the show is very exaggerated but it is great and very funny,” Melanie said.

“The kids that are in the show have done really well.”

Bronte and Melanie have enjoyed working with BTC for the first time.

“It’s very homely, there's a nice community and it’s nice to meet different people,” Melanie said.

“In a community show there's people from all different walks of life.”

Melanie is studying to be a drama teacher.
It’s something I love doing. It’s the first time I have sung solo in front of a lot of people for a while but once the first night is done I'll be fine,” she said.

“Always really wanted to audition for a BTC show but have been too chicken.”

Melanie has previously performed in Girton productions of Les Miserables, You Can’t Take It With You and Oliver.

“I was cast as a boy in Oliver because I had just shaved my head,” she said.

“I have also worked backstage in a lot of shows.”

Snow White is the first time Bronte has done drama outside of school productions.

She has performed in The 39 Steps, Into the Woods and Hairspray with Girton Grammar.

“I’ve never had a major lead but I have had some really good parts,” she said.

“I did not think get the role, at all. When I got it, I couldn't believe it.

“It is a bit scary but over time it’s not as intimidating. It's a real learning experience, it feels like a step up.”

Snow White is on at the BTC Arts Shed in Allingham Street, Golden Square.

Performances start at 7.30pm on January 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23. Matinee performances start at 2pm on January 16, 17, 23 and 24.
