Wyndham Vale lake car crash: Mother charged with murder of 3 kids breaks down in court |
A woman alleged to have driven her car into a lake in Melbourne, killing three of her children, has broken down in court, saying she wants to go home.
Akon Goude, 35, originally from South Sudan, is facing three counts of murder and one charge of attempted murder after her car veered off the road and into Lake Gladwell in Wyndham Vale in Melbourne's west on April 8.
Her son Bol, aged one, and four-year-old twins Anger and Madit died, while her five-year-old daughter survived.
Goude, who had been living in Wyndham Vale, was remanded in custody until a committal hearing in June next year.
Her lawyer did not apply for bail.
However, she addressed the court, saying she wanted to go home.
"I'm feeling emotional, I need help," a clearly distressed Guode told magistrate Carolene Gwynn.
"Anything you tell me to do I will do," she said through an interpreter.
Guode fell back into the chair before being escorted from the courtroom.
It is expected that 46 witnesses will be called on during next year's committal hearing.
