| Richard Green hits hole in one on par four at Victorian Open pro-am |
Australian professional Richard Green's preparations for the Victorian Open have received an unexpected boost, with the 43-year-old scoring a hole in one off a par four.
Competing in the Victorian Open's pro-am event ahead of Thursday's commencement of competition, Green took a driver off the 15th tee at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links.
Green dropped his head after watching his shot fly into the bunker, but was quickly alerted to his achievement by cameramen surrounding the green who saw the ball skip out of the sand, onto the green and into the hole.
"I noticed the tee was up from where we played it last year, I thought it was a good opportunity to get up near the green and contend for birdies during the week," Green said.
"I thought I would hit a driver and see what happens, I just pushed it a little bit, it was a good shot, but I knew it was going in the bunker so I was completely oblivious to the fact that it had made its way to the hole somehow."
The stroke was the first time the European Tour winner has recorded an albatross for a shot 3-under par.
"I haven't had anything like that happen before, I have had hole in ones during tournaments but they have been shots that have landed by the hole and found their way in," added Green.
"They were fantastic moments but an albatross, I have never come close. They are something that may never happen to someone in their career as a Professional."
"So to have one in even in a pro-am was very special."
Joining Green in the field for the Victorian Open is the likes of Peter Lonard, Todd Sinnott and Nick Cullen.
