Rinehart takes action over TV show |
Mining magnate Gina Rinehart is making an urgent application in the Supreme Court to view the second part of Nine Network's show House of Hancock.
Ms Rinehart's barrister Tom Blackburn SC said she was making the discovery application in a bid to see the show before it airs on Sunday night.
She would then decide if and what grounds an injunction could be made to stop the program from airing. The first instalment of the two-part drama was shown last weekend.
It dramatizes the relationship between Ms Rinehart and her late father Lang Hancock. It also covers the beginning of a fraught relationship between Ms Rinehart and her father's second wife Rose.
Described by the Nine Network as a must-see drama event, it features Mandy McElhinney as Ms Rinehart, Sam Neill as Mr Hancock and Peta Sergeant as Rose.
After it aired, Hancock Prospecting executive director Tad Watroba slammed the show, alleging it was full of falsehoods and a tacky grab for ratings. Despite repeatedly bringing it to Nine CEO David Gyngell's attention, many scenes broadcast last weekend were fictitious, unfounded or grossly distorted, and some simply never occurred, Mr Watroba told News Corp Australia.
Mr Blackburn told the Supreme Court that Ms Rinehart's application should take about one and a half hours. Nine has declined to comment on the legal action.
